"Well, life isn't fair"

I can remember their eyes and hand gestures as they said it "Well Daniel, life isn't fair". I always wanted to yell back at them and say "IT WILL BE FOR ME!!!" Unfortunately, they were right. Life definitely isn't fair. It will laugh at you, kick you when you're down, cheat on you with your best friend, and then make you feel like it's all your fault!! I recently read an article about extending life to a thousand years or possibly even more. I have my reservations about the actual morality of the issue but one thing I know for sure is -- I can't imagine living a hundred years, why in the world would I want to live TEN TIMES that?? I do have things that I enjoy in my own life but earthly possessions can only give so much satisfaction! I love music, reading, writing, and various other things. Can you imagine hearing the same songs for a THOUSAND years? I would hate that song SO much! And what would I read after the first couple hundred years went by? Aristotle, Plato, Socrates, Kierkagaard, Hume, Kant, Wittgenstein, Popper, and Nietzche (just to name a few) would only take about 20 or 30 years to read and understand! Maybe, just to be fair, add another 10 years to each philosopher to actually understand them and you are still just barely over a hundred! So, morality aside, if we actually determine how to extend life to such an extreme amount of time, you can count me out! Get Rich Quick!!

So you want to get rich quickly and easily huh? My personal opinion? It's not going to happen. I'll explain why. I have tried a few "get rich quick" schemes and so far I have failed to reap any benefits. The two basic schemes are a random website (normally "get rich quick pyramid" schemes) which promise you a thousand dollars a week with almost no work and the offer to take surveys for money. Let's look at my personal experiences with both.

Get rich quick (work from home) -- I'm not a rich man. I have a little money in the bank but not enough to pay rent if I stopped receiving a paycheck. I saw this GREAT website which
promised that if I would actually put effort into it, I would make a lot of money through their program. Sounds great, right? I talked with them for a week or so--making sure I wasn't getting into anything I couldn't get out of--and finally decided to send them some money to start off my partnership with them. I sent almost two-hundred dollars and received a box of products worth maybe twenty-five dollars. I then found out that in order to become a part of the program, I needed to make my first large order. This consisted of an order of OVER a thousand dollars!! I decided that it wasn't worth it and never followed up with their program, losing my initial two-hundred dollars. My advice on these schemes? DON'T DO THEM -- unless you have a lot of extra money and can actually try a few of them.

Surveys for money -- I actually enjoy doing surveys. Weird, I know. But, it seems like you might be helping someone or something by doing them. So I figured why not get paid to do them? Of course, I had to up my quota of surveys per day, but it seemed like an easy way to make some money. I never made a dime. Well, that may not be true, I
may have five dollars in an account somewhere, and it's just waiting until I make twenty more dollars to get sent to me. Most surveys you take will "enter" you into some drawing to win an awesome prize -- probably just a gimmick -- and then a few will actually offer you a dollar or two but never the kind of money I wanted! The ads all say "make 75-100 dollars a day doing surveys" which sounds GREAT but unfortunately is about as true as the reasons we are in Iraq. So my advice on taking surveys? Do it if you you enjoy it but don't expect to actually make money from it.

My overall advice is to go back to college, get a degree, become a successful "whatever", and spend the rest of your life trying to win the lottery. That's my brilliant plan at least. Oh, and feel free to click on the Google ads!! It's my latest "get rich quick" scheme, which will inevitably fail quickly and horribly. If you actually have any personal experience of making money on the internet -- LEAVE A COMMENT!!

My first time

Yes, this is my first time. I agree that it isn't that pretty and I don't have all the right moves yet but give it a few tries-it gets better the more you do it. I had to go through a lot just to get my first taste of it but it was worth it. I am already thinking about my second time!

All right, enough of the metaphor and back to reality. Let's start off with the basics. I chose the name "ransom" because it's my favorite fictional character from C. S. Lewis' "space trilogy"-if you haven't read them, RUN or drive straight to the nearest book store and pick up all three books.

I don't know what this blog will be about yet but I do know that I love to write. It should be interesting for all of us. It will probably be between religion, politics, science, language, Youtube, life, and whatever else is out there.

So for my first time, let's set the mood with some music.

Imogen Heap-"Hide and Seek"

You're right, it doesn't set the mood at all. That's all right though, I still love it for some reason. See you tomorrow!
